2015 ASME South Texas Section University Technical Competition

* Only students in the schools listed above will be qualified to participate in this competition.
Categories:
Undergraduate research, undergraduate design, and graduate student research.
Focus:
All mechanical engineering related research and design projects are welcome. Topics related to subsea and surface engineering are highly encouraged.
Submission Deadline by each school’s local ASME board to Rice ASME board: 04/01/2015
Recommended Submission Deadline by participants to each school’s local ASME board: 03/25/2015
Form of Submission:
Undergraduate research
- Participants must submit a poster to each school’s local ASME Student Board by the recommended deadline March 25th. The local ASME board will then be responsible to screen the submissions and turn in 3 candidates to Rice ASME riceasme@gmail.com as well as utc.asmesouthtexas@gmail.com by April 1, 2015
- Rice teams interested in participating must submit a poster to riceasme@gmail.com as well as utc.asmesouthtexas@gmail.com by March 25, 2015
- Poster detail: the poster submitted electronically has to be on 8.5”x11”(letter) format, the poster to be displayed during the competition has to be 3′x4′ in dimension.
Undergraduate design
- Participants must submit a poster to each school’s ASME Student Board by the recommended deadline March 25, 2015 and prepare a prototype during the competition showcase, each school will then be responsible to screen the submissions and turn in 3 candidates to Rice ASME riceasme@gmail.com as well as utc.asmesouthtexas@gmail.com by April 1, 2015.
- Rice teams interested in participating must submit a poster to riceasme@gmail.com as well as utc.asmesouthtexas@gmail.com by the deadline and prepare a prototype during the competition showcase
- All participants are responsible for preparing a final poster for the competition showcase. The poster submitted electronically has to be on 8.5”x11” (letter) format, the poster to be displayed during the competition has to be 3′x4′ in dimension.
Graduate research
- Participants must submit a 2-page extended abstract to each school’s ASME board by March 25, 2015.
- Participants must prepare a Powerpoint presentation on the day of competition
- Rice teams interested in participating must submit a 2-page exteneed abstract to riceasme@gmail.com as well as utc.asmesouthtexas@gmail.com by the March 25, 2015
Eligibility:
- For South Texas Section Participants:
- Undergraduate Research projects approved by each school’s ASME board (Maximum of 3 candidates or teams)
- Undergraduate Design projects approved by each school’s ASME board (Maximum of 3 candidates or teams)
- Graduate Research projects approved by each school’s ASME board (Maximum of 2 candidates)
- For Rice Participants:
- All MECH senior design teams with a MECH focus
- All MECH related undergraduate research projects
- All MECH related graduate research projects
Awards:
Three $1500 for winners in each category+ $300 per university (travel compensation)
One $1500 CD-Adapco Award for a team that focuses on modeling
