Why I ran for my position: I ran for president because I wanted to see and make a change in ASME. I knew that through the role of president, I’m able to make that change and help ASME transition into the organization that I always knew it could be.

External Vice President: Doris Xu

Class: Junior

College: Martel

Why she ran for her position: Doris is an adventurous gal born and raised in northern China and lived in New England before coming to Rice and becoming a proud Martelian. She loves meeting new people, learning about their talents and experiences, and brining people from different communities together. The role of ASME EVP allows her to listen and learn about current students’ needs and connect the student body with the faculty and alumni communities. When not on ASME duties, you can also find Doris working around the OEDK or playing chess in the warm Houston weather.

Why I ran for my position: I ran for senior rep so that I could help plan social events that would build a better sense of community for Mechs of all years, especially after the effects of the pandemic.

Why I ran for my position: I ran for this position because I wanted the opportunity to give back to this amazing organization that has helped me connect with other Mechs and learn more about the major/field. Why I ran for my position: I ran for Freshman Representative because I want to get more freshmen involved with ASME and help them find resources and a community where they can feel comfortable asking questions and have a place to enrich their mechanical engineering experience.

Why I ran for my position: I’m interested in the applications of mechanical engineering and conducting various research projects in the field; it would be my honor to be part of the Rice ASME team, where we can share our experiences and benefit from each other. Moreover, I’m aiming to create a stronger network for Rice community engineers, where we can help each other in finding numerous opportunities.
